Bike cuts out. Wierd situation!
i bought my sv650sy in october and she runs fine most of the time but i have been having a problem where my bike will cut out randomly and this has happened a few times now (approx 10 times scince bought). the situation normally arises when i am changing down gear or coming to a stop. Its not the fact that im stalling my bike because i have had the cluch fully engaged, free wheeling up to a set of traffic lights and the bike has also cut out. its also isnt me being an idiot and hitting the enging kill switch cos the bike starts up again fine. so im a little stumpped . can anyone help with surgestions on what i can next check or know whats going on?
I have recently had to change the regulator / rectifiyer. everything was connected back correctly. i then carried out an electrical test in that area and compaired then with my old mans bike which is the same. that was all good. any help will be greatfully recieved Bazza SV650sy 1999 curvy - viper exuast, braided break lines - so far. |

Re: Bike cuts out. Wierd situation!
Basics first, when warm, is it idling fast enough? Even with the clutch in there's a little drag on the engine.
Make sure it's idling somewhere near an indicated 1500 - 1700rpm Jambo

I had a similar problem. Turned out to be clogged up air filter, but at higher revs it was ok.

Re: Bike cuts out. Wierd situation!
Also ive been chatting to a friend about the exuast system that is on my bike, which was fitted before i got the bike. they mentioned that it might be something to do with the fuel jets not being changed. is there any truth to this and if so would it cause the problem that i am currently experiancing?

Re: Bike cuts out. Wierd situation!
Raise the idle speed a little.
If it's had a full system put on it and not jetted then it'll be a little lean, that'll cause it to "hang" when you blip the throttle, i.e sit a little above the idle speed for a second or so. Lean running would not normally cause cutting out.
