Default Bikesafe course

Just thought I would see if any of you are interested in the North Wales Police bikesafe course which is run fron the Police HQ in Colwyn Bay?

Its a two day course, designed to improve your riding skills. Its half in the classroom, covering stuff like first aid, road positioning, etc. The other half (approx 3 hours per day) is spent out with a Police Traffic rider.

I did the course a few years ago on my return to biking after a good layoff. Let me tell you, if you think you can ride a bike, you havnt even touched the surface! The Police rider I went out with said "we will stick to 30's, 40's and 50's, but stay with me in the national limits.

Bloody hell! I was on a bandit 1200, he was on a Police Pan European. We headed down towards Betwys Y Coed and i couldnt keep up! and as for the low speed stuff in the car park! wow!

The course is normally £100 for the two day course, but if you live in North wales, you get sponsorship from the local councils, and the course is free!

Lots of dates all through the year. If anyone is interested, let me know. I have a list of dates.

I did it last year, and I agree with the speed limits part of that.

Though, I didn't really get THAT much out of Bikesafe. That said, I'm in the unique position of being a high miler (37k miles in 2 years on a then brand new bike), and I've actively researched advanced riding & tried to incorporate it before I did BikeSafe.

About the only thing that I've taken from the course is the method for overtaking (ie, pull out, indicate, go), and lining up overtakes after passing a hazard, where a car doesn't have the performance to match.

That said, it's a very good course, with decent feedback. Even better that it's free!

I did the Merseyside Police one last year, it was fab and we went for a rideout to the Ponderosa on the Sunday...can't rave about this enough.

The Police riders are fab, even when getting caught up in a Taleban road block on the way up to the Pondy
