Not the sharpest pic, I know, but I watched in rapt fascination as this female sparrowhawk took a leisurely 90-minute lunch on a pigeon in our garden today.

It was interesting to see what the hawk had eaten after it finally flew off and left the corpse.

It had had a little nibble at the breast under one of the pigeon's wings, but the main part of the meal was the pigeon's neck: from the skull to the start of the breastbone was picked clean right down to the spine, barely a scrap of muscle or skin left. It had even eaten most of the contents of the pigeon's crop (seeds etc).

A while back we watched a falconry display and chatting to the falconer afterwards, I asked if raptors had any tastebuds. He replied that they didn't, and whatever they preyed on or found as carrion was simply fuel to be bolted as fast as possible, or taken back to the next for their brood.

I visited a bike show in Winstanslow on Sunday. I got there a bit late so didn't see as much as I'd like.

Had a ride into Welshpool to do a few errands. Parked at Tesco and this pulled in beside me. Had a good chat with the owner who has only had it a few days but is very happy with it so far. This is really quite small, no bigger than my old 70s T140V.
Very pretty bike.
