I'm with you on that.

Same old, same old, isn't it?! Just ideologically-driven, populist thinking, not much by way of well constructed, evidenced plans & policies for a long-term stable and sustainable future. (Unfortunately I feel much the same way about the 'opposition' too!)

A few years ago I'd have been content that the inertia and consistency of the civil service would shield us from total chaos and lunacy but now I'm not so sure.

I'm sure no pressure will be applied.
Whilst Machiavelli is usually characterised as an evil manipulator, there's another school of thought that he was just a highly competent manager and influencer, well able to deal with the many competing interests that needed co-ordinating and unblocking to just get stuff done (albeit probably his way rather than anyone else's, I grant you).

Right now, I think I'd happily tolerate some more of that delivery skill in our national administration. The fighting behaviours and stunted progress we seem to mainly see nowadays in Government and Parliament wouldn't be out of place in most early-school playgrounds.

You're right it's probably gonna be messy but perhaps it's time to consider a concept without party dominance? Maybe carve 'em up into smaller pieces so more of them have to work together for common good, rather than just cancelling each other out and leaving an unopposed residue to tip the balance?

IMHO, the hardest part about solving a problem is usually identifying the problem in the first place!
