Smashed bike conundrum
Really can't work out what to do with my SV.
It's a K5 black pointy however having had a recent low side I'm faced with a bike with 33K on the clock, dented tank, radiator, damaged exhaust, rear brake lever, and the front cowling is fubar. I want to replace the bike as I'm no longer in love with it so... Do I sell it as is? Do people buy battered bikes? Or should I repair it and sell it? (I fear that being more work/cost than it's worth?) Thanks for the advice! |

Re: Smashed bike conundrum
I think it would be more economical to break it or try and get best price as it is.

Re: Smashed bike conundrum
Yeah I might just stick it on fleabay as I don't have the space to break it down.
Nitron shock alone must be worth more than 50p and a curly wurly |

Re: Smashed bike conundrum
I think you'll find:
(1) the best money is in breaking it, but that'll take effort, not only to break but packaging stuff up, all the fleabay auctions and trips to the PO etc. (2) After that I think fixing it up with scrappy parts would give you the best return, but again this will take time ... lots of weeks waiting for the right parts of the right colour to turn up. (3) Selling is as a project will be the least economical. The person who buys that sort of bike will most likely be the sort to fix it up and sell it on (see 2) so will pay accordingly. They may be the sort to buy it as a second project bike, but again, they'll want it at a silly bargain to make it worth it. It's all about effort to expenditure ratio mate. Personally I'd consider 2 if I could source most of the parts now.

Re: Smashed bike conundrum
I think you should first decide what bike you want to replace it with and come up with a sensible budget. Then give it 6 months.
In the meantime, you can do a series of vlogs about stripping the bike down, working out how it all works and goes back together once you get the parts. I imagine quite a few of your subs will find that interesting. Then you set yourself the challenge of getting it back on the road spending as little as possible and using all sorts of creative solutions. 6 months up? Then sell it. |

Re: Smashed bike conundrum
Its a crap time of year to sell a bike, you've got about 2/3 months until the spring/summer starts. Plenty of time to repair it and sell it. Make it a naked model, shouldn't cost a bomb (bar the naked yoke)

Re: Smashed bike conundrum
Cheers guys.
I take a top yoke for a naked bandit won't suffice? Haven't seen any yokes for a pointy on eBay I have to play the waiting game I guess. |
