Have you noticed how we are starting to get more references to the Blitz and the Blitz spirit? Are they trying to tell us something?

According to Clare Foges (the columnist) Some Brits relish the thought of the cameraderie when we collectively suffer hardships. (I am not one, the winter of 78-79 was miserable).

I think they should take down the inspirational poster from their walls, the one that says:

"That which doesn't kill you, makes you stronger"

Indeed, and replace it with 'patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel.' And by that, I'm inferring Samuel Johnson's meaning of patriotism: the kind of blind flag-shagging that has become increasingly common over the past decade.
