Repairing an exhaust can? - SV650.org

Hi,
I've recently bought this SV650s '02, it's got a few scrapes here and there. It has an Art pro series 2 can on it, aluminium by looks of it and its got a bit scraped at the front where the rivetted band is.

I would like to repair it myself, I was just wondering if anyone has any experience or advice on where to get a new stainless band or on any aspect of the repair?

You can find said bits on Ebay, Try to get solid straps rather than those with slots in - the holes rarely line up, you'll have to drill new holes and sod's law states very firmly the unused original holes will show through the slots. Stainless rivets can be difficult to fit unless you've got a good sturdy gun, but don't be tempted to use aluminium ones as they'll rattle out in no time.

I've repaired a few exhaust cans and generally you can make a good job if you're careful how you reshape the sleeve. Sometimes it's best to remove the sleeve and turn it right round so the bit you've repaired isn't visible.

you'll find sometimes you can't turn the sleeve around as the join line runs down the back, however not a fix but a cheap way to cover it is one of these
