Closest Call Yet
Ok. In my 2 and a half years of riding a bike I have had some very near misses but this is the closest yet.
Yesterday morning I was riding the back road from Denmead to Lovedean. As you leave the last bends from Denmead there is a nice straight followed by a medium bend to the left and then another straight. I got up to around 60-65 and came round this bend. As I approached the exit of the bend I saw a car on the opposite side of the road coming towards me, then Oh my god there is a prat in a white Escort/Courier type van trying to overtake coming straight for me just yards from the bend. I pull the front brake as hard as I could and I was just getting ready to try and jump off of the bike to try and get over then van when he cut across the path of the other car and I went down the side of the van within inches of it. The adreneline did not stop for ages after that. I could not focus at work and hardly got any sleep last night. I have calmed down a bit now. How many more close ones can one person have? !!! Tim |

Re: Closest Call Yet
I understand you were shaken but if thats the closest call you have had in 2.5 years then you have been lucky. You are gonna have many more near misses and that is a part of biking.

Car overtaking a tractor approaching a blind bend, thank God the Porsche driver behind us had good brakes and reactions. Car u-turning in a layby without the driver looking, car out of control and bouncing off a bank directly in front, lorry u turning after a blind bend..............the list goes on. You're still here to post about it...............that's the important thing

Re: Closest Call Yet
Yep, it might be me getting old but if I can't see round the bend I slow down nowadays. The alternative doesn't bear thinking about. Glad it was a near miss.

Could have been worse mate. You made it to work/home and you will learn from this. Well done for not panicking! You could have easily locked the front!
