My SV 650 2nd gen, is at 15,000 miles, so it needs a vale check/adjust as per the device manual.
Had a quote from a local Suzuki dealer for £800 . Thought that was a bit too tasty for me, so I decided to have a good at it myself. I’ve thing I will say, my ABBA Superbike stand did make it easier, as I had to adjust all four valves on the rear cylinder. The cam chain tensioner is worth a topic on its own, try to get to it wasn’t;t easy Anyway , have adjusted and put everything back together on the rear cylinder, Will tackle the front cylinder in the next two weeks. The cam chain adjuster looks to be much easier to access. |

Please be careful as many an SV engine has been ruined by getting Valve adjustment wrong. Triple check your work before running the engine.
These will help, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtf0UIoY4UU&t=52s http://www.bluepoof.com/motorcycles/howto/svs_valves/ I took the advice from another SV forum not to bother and just do good routine oil and coolant changes and I've had my SV650 Gen1 since 16 k miles and now on 44k and I've never checked the valves and doubt I will.

Yes, double checked everything, clearances, torque values etc.
A little apprehensive on start up, but everything sounds good. Last edited by Denis99; 12-04-26 at 07:16 PM. |

That's good AFAIK as it would have shown up bad pretty quickly.

I suppose I should check the clearance on my Gen 1 SV, but I've made it to 113,000 miles with out ever checking them and the bike still runs like a dream!

I set the valve clearances on the side nearer the maximum.
Inlet spec is 0.10mm to 0.20mm Now set to 0.20mm Exhaust spec is 0.20mm to 0.30mm Now set at 0.25mm |

Wear is largely down to revs I reckon and on SV most of us dont feel the need to go high like a four cylinder subsequently the clearances stay in spec much longer

Not tinkered with anything today, but as it looks like we have good weather right through till Monday, and as long as my back eases up enough, I'll be getting the bike out and onto the paddock stands to give it a thorough, and long overdue clean!
