Default Plumbers help with my new bathroom

Now I have a few days off from work I thought I'd start with my new bathroom. First time to have a go at this kind of stuff but I do a lot of pneumatics at work so reckon it can't be much harder but...

Do you need PTFE on compression fittings? Ripped my old bath out and want to put some isolation valves in so I can turn the water back on.

No PTFE rquired on compression fittings. The "olive"....the wedding ring like item in the fittings is what does the sealing of the joint. (Trust me,experience of bathroom refits and heating system installation behind me.)

If the joints clean then as PH says the compression fitting should be enuf.

you can buy ready to solder joints.. easy to use if you get them hot enough.. but for goodness sake DO NOT skimp on a cheap blow lamp as they can struggle to get a 22mm joint hot enough.

Expect to pay £60 from a decent merchants

I dislike compression but it has its place.

If its just temporary then I'd use a couple of the push fit end caps - make sure the cut is clean, straight and de-burred, they work a treat, dont leak and are re-useable.
Isolation valves usually sieze up after a few years without use anyway.

No it isn't temporary, I was wanting to have the isolating valves for when I try the shower and stuff to see if they leak. The fittings are in and they aren't leaking so happy days. Now just chase out the walls for the shower. The plaster is all falling off too!

Tell me about it! I'm eyeing up the kitchen next and only just started the bathroom.

And thinking ahead. When tiling the walls do you tile to the floor and put the skirting on top or is there deeper skirting that you can tile up to
