Default Life of rear brake pads

Hello

I have just got a new back tyre fitted and they said my brake pads needed doing too.

I have done about 10,000 miles. is that a bit carp? Was hoping they would last a lot longer than that as I hardly use the back brake

Also I paid £220 for a new metzler tyre and the pads plus labour. have I just been ripped off too???

Thanks in advance for any replies

Which Metz was it?
New rear pads are less than £20 and shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes to fit (they actually take about 10 minutes, but I'm lazy)

Mine were just reaching the end of their life at 15k, so yours were probably well on the way but I doubt they actually needed replacing.

Mine's done almost 13,000 on original pads front and back.
Not down to the wear limit yet, but getting close.

I've gone through four sets of rear pads in 26k miles and am still on the original fronts, so really it's a question of how you brake that determines what will wear and how often.

However, if you don't use much rear brake then it could well be that they're binding which could account for the wear.

My rear pads were replaced at 9000, for £23 but I think they were binding a little, as I hardly use the rear except in town.

My front pads are still looking ok at 13000 and i tend to ride quite hard and use the front brake in the same casual manner
