Default Mad Paris Driving

Ok, not a bike, but I'm sure you can appreciate it all the same...

Quote:
On an August morning in 1978, French filmmaker Claude Lelouch mounted a gyro-stabilized camera to the bumper of a Ferrari 275 GTB and had a friend, a professional Formula 1 racer, drive at breakneck speed through the heart of Paris. The film was limited for technical reasons to 10 minutes; the course was from Porte Dauphine, through the Louvre, to the Basilica of Sacre Coeur.

No streets were closed, for Lelouch was unable to obtain a permit.

The driver completed the course in about 9 minutes, reaching nearly 140 MPH in some stretches. The footage reveals him running real red lights, nearly hitting real pedestrians, and driving the wrong way up real one-way streets.
The sound is *so* cool

Someone has done a Goole Map of the route:

http://www.renegadetourist.com/rendezvous.html

Actually I don't reckon he gets anywhere near 140 - it doesn't seem that fast at all to me. Maybe it's just cos it's so old. Still impressive all the same.

nah, i think it's a fake.

Several reasons....
The acceleration noises of the car don't match the picture speeds, in fact they're practically non-existent. Try watching it with the sound off, more like a car doing 50ish. It's like the film has been sped up, he probably stopped for the red lights but they've edited the film. The guy crossing the road didn't even look at the car. Surely he would have heard this beast of a Ferrari screaming towards him at high speed and turned to look at it? The squealy noises of the tyres seem a little bit overdone too.
Maybe I'm wrong.

If you want to see a nutter doing similar on a bike in Paris have a look here. This one is definitely real, it's too scary not to be! Quality is a bit poor though.

Is this the clip which is behind the film Un Certain Rendevous?

that I have seen and is no way faked from watching the film and the sounds of that one are consistent with a car going round corners too damn quickly. 16 sets of red lights for a film shot at 6am in early 70s... given the date made would suggest too much effort to slow down and edit in comparison to showing the actual footage.

btw the link didnt work so cant tell if its the one Ive seen or not.

Now that *is* amazing and no question at all about it being fake in anyway!

The car thing is cool though, if not just for the sounds alone. It is C'était un Rendezvous as Lynn pointed out.

I'm still a bit dubious of the speeds, the following seems reasonably realistic, indicating it only gets into 3 figures once:

hmmm Ive watched the DVD version of it - link still not working for me so no idea if youve got access to one of the dodgy quality ones. It seemed real enough to me eg the car was going fast the as the way it was cornering wasnt smooth like a car going at a slow speed would do.

why wouldnt it be real? Paris, 6am in 1970ish would be that empty of traffic to do that legitimately without resorting to camera tricks, not like trying it at 6am now which I would imagine would see a bit more traffic than that.

Just watched it again and I dunno, can't put my finger on it.

When I suggested editing, it just feels a bit sped up.
