Default crankcase and water pump

when i washed da bike the other day some paint came off the water pump and crank case what is the best way of treating this by painting or what?

Mine was so bad I got a replacement cover off ebay for £20, less hassle than paint.
Even at the breakers SV parts are pretty cheap. Being a newbie bike there are loads of 'em written off.

Or prevent the problem by not washing it.
