Default Biking world Handy Hints n Tips

I thought i'll start a thread for all those biking related hints and tips that we all pick up over the years that other people might not of thought of. So keep them bike related and fire away...I'll start

1.Carry your waterproof overtrousers in a carrier bag. When it comes to putting them on, you can slide the carrier bag over your boot and this makes it so much easier to slide your trousers over your boot. Repeat with other foot.

2. Carry a set of vinyl gloves under your seat. If you get caught out on a 'summers' day with summer gloves, pop them under your gloves and hey presto, temporary waterproof gloves!

Picked this up off here: If you have really fiddly gloves to find the fingers on, drag them over your brake/clutch levers.

Learnt this the hard way: always leave your waterproofs at the top of your luggage so you're not stood unpacking EVERYTHING in the torrential rain dropping all your dry stuff in puddles.

Carry spare levers on longer trips! Don't rely on the std. tool kit mix and match your own little set from an old pouch/bag and common spanners, sockets and allen keys.

A small bottle of visor cleaner and paper towels are a must for summer evening riding.

Anyone know anything you can use from home instead of paying for visor cleaner? I just use water, to be honest it seems pretty good - doesn't shift stuff as fast as visor cleaner though.

If you're visor is encrusted with flies.

Soak a paper towel and lay it over your visor and the splattered flies. Leave for five minutes then remove. All flies should have been removed.

Then clean in normal way.

I always take my driving licence (the photo ID card), debit/credit card and some cash incase there's no cash machine at the destination...

Sit on your bike when fueling up - don't do it with the bike on sidestand/tilted as you can't get as much fuel in.

Make eye contact with drivers who've just appeared at a junction you're approaching. If they break eye contact, you can be fairly sure they're gonna pull out on you.

High viz jackets: although you look a little bit silly, they work a treat.

Cleaning your visor - if you've ridden in the rain or in the spray path of another vehicle, try to soak your visor in luke warm water. If you just wipe it with a wet cloth all the sediment and sh*t gets dragged across your visor and scratches it to high hell. Makes night time riding a giggle

To get the best out of your tyres, make sure they remain in contact with the tarmac.

I thought about this and came to the conclusion it'd flow into the overflow/drain hole as soon as you put it on the side stand. Infact typing this I've though "is there even a drain hole?"
