If you don't register, you can't vote. But even if you don't vote, you can't complain. If you complain, no one will listen anyway...
Having seen that new "Register or lose your vote" advert with the nice lady walking the dog and then bumping into an invisible wall, I thought I'd have a quick look at the website behind the advert...
http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/why_sho...uld_regis.aspx I appreciate the whole "If you don't vote, you can't complain" stance, but even if you do complain, who listens anyway? example: I lived in west yorkshire all my life until last year. The roads are hilariously rubbish in the kirklees area. I'm talking potholes big enough to have people off, my brother once smashed the steering rack on his old escort when he hit a pothole... Complaining to our local council representative, the local highways agency etc.... did absolutely b*gger all. And that was when I actively voted. So, should me & the missus register for the right to vote? having moved house, we're not on the electoral role etc.. so we probably should, but in the real world right now it seems the only benefit to being on the electoral role is a better chance of getting credit/loans etc.

Thought it was a legal requirement to register?

and well over a million people marched to protest about going into an illegal "war"* in Iraq and that didn't get listened to either, so you're in good company.
And the electoral role is a leagl obligation iirc, you MUST put your details on it but make sure you are on the edited version otherwise your details can be sold to all and sundry who want it by your local council. * No one ever really explained how invading a country without decalring war against it was a war to me.

aye, I think that's just it though, millions of people march in the streets with shouting & placards, sometimes there might be a riot etc... but nothing ever really changes. I don't go to demonstrations or protests, so how the hell am I ever going to be heard? besides, all the politicians really are nonses and perverts who just wanna get their 1st and 2nd houses paid for and the john lewis list completed, so they can retire and have an easy life...

oh apart from the liberal democrats, the missus' father mentioned something about how none of them claim expenses or they don't bother with the john lewis list or something? Need to read up on that

Not till they get in that is i guess Just remember how Old new labour vowed to clean up sleaze that the Tories were knee deep in, and now try to claim porn as expenses - nice. How they wanted a far more transparent Govt until Jack Straw recetly decided that even tho they had nothing to hide and therefore nothing to fear, they were still gonna hide all the decision making behind the invasion under a 30yr restriction. Oh and dont forget that this country only really has a 2 party system and you vote not for who you want to be in charge but for the ones who have the most chance of getting the current occupants out of No 10, so a vote for a 3rd party they will tell you is a "wasted vote" Can you tell I only ever voted once, when i turned 18 just for the novelty value of it, lol.

Well i don't like the conservatives and i despise labour, i'd only vote conservative because i like labour less... so what's the point of voting? I'm not going to get what i want so what's the point? And i'll carry on moaning.
I might end up voting conservative though... but it still doesn't deserve a capital letter. |
