Nigel Farage
So it seems he's been handed down a fine for his tirade against President of the European Council Herman van Rompuy
Anyone else think it was a bit tame? I'm quite surprised he wasn't suspended Just as a reminder here's a few choice quotes from his speech: Herman van Rompuy has "the charisma of a damp rag", that he had the appearance of a "low-grade bank clerk" and that Belgium is "pretty much a non-country" Now, regardless of your personal views on the EU and Brussels, did anyone else get the impression that Farage's words sounded very much like a small petty man trying to make himself sound important by grabbing a bit of media attention? I thought he was downright rude tbh, and seeing him defending himself in various venues afterwards only strengthens my belief that he's not a very pleasant person So, what say ye org? Justified point of view or unreasonable tirade?

Re: Nigel Farage
Yes downright rude indeed, but not very different to something Clarkson might have said, and we all lap that up.

Id vote for him. Who is this chap who has suddenly become el presidente of the european union? I think he has round ones of a very hard metal to do what he did
No one kicked up a fuss when Daniel Hannan ripped into Gordon Brown. |

Re: Nigel Farage
i'm not sure if farage really feels that way about van nistelroy or whatever his name is - farage was playing to the UK news to burnish some anti-europe credentials before the election.
the difference between this one and the dan hannan rant was 1) hannan is very good at eloquent rants and 2) giving brown the hairdryer treatment is acceptable compared to trashing the newly enthroned, inaugural eu leader. EU wonks couldn't care less for el gordo but they are protective of the new guy. so...justified point of view or unreasonable tirade? neither really...just some politiking |

Re: Nigel Farage
Yes but it was very naughty to be so rude about Belgium.Stella comes from Belgium and she's a right goer.
