Yes unfortunately if piston isnt hitting valve(s) I'll be very surprised...

OK so as you predicted, no compression in front cylinder
So that would suggest either a stuck or damaged valve?
Spark plug is new 400 miles, looks a little black and slightly glossy but fine
Bike is off the road till this is fixed. Don’t want to make any thing worse

Right so cam cover off first then head off

Yes its looking very much like the valve timing has slipped for some reason, most likely a slack timing chain and you should be able to see this when the cam cover is removed. I think you'll also see that one or more valves will be stuck down ie not returning to their fully closed position. However if youre lucky and this hasnt happened you might be able to reset the cams to their correct positions and get the chain properly tensioned without removing the head. Note with care the cam cover rubber gasket can be reused if separated without tearing...

I agree with Seeker. Drop the oil, look for any metal glitter, but, I would also whip the head off & see if there is anything untoward going on. It does definitely sound mechanical & not electrical.
Another thing to try is using a screwdriver like a stethoscope to find where the noise is coming from. Start the engine, put the blade end of the screwdriver on different parts of the engine & put your ear on the other end, it's surprising how much you can hear inside the motor & it may pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

The chain looks a bit lose on the top sprocket? Now you need to get the engine to the TDC mark and follow the manual for checking the cam positions are correct...

Drained the oil. I was expecting it to sparkle like a snow globe

Clean as a whistle! oil was changed at the start of the year about 400 miles.

yes problem definitely top end of engine as nothing below piston will cause loss of compression. Check the valves are all still operational....
