My issue..........
Ok,
I have had a creamy coloured substance on the inside of my oil cap since I got the bike in Oct last year. I took it to my local bike shop and they said "its ok, its just because it has been stood". Having some doubt I left it at that. No loss of power running well. About two weeks ago when stuck in traffic the temperature light came on, I pulled over let it cool down then took it home and topped up with coolant. Its been ok until today. Got back from a bit of a pootle with Drew and noticed an oily residue beneath the water pump it looked as though it had been leaking. Now im thinking the seals on the waterpump must be shot allowing water to access my engine which would account for the creamy stuff and the oily muck leaking outside. The bike has done 11k and i dont really want to blow it up. How much do you think I am looking at to repair?? & is it a DIY job?? Any other thoughts?? Cheers Dan |

Re: My issue..........
there is a gasket that acts as a coolant / oil seperator behind the water pump casing. cost about £7.00 might be a cheap fix if it's only that.
clutch cover gasket inner. 11482-19F00 is the part #

This sounds like classic water in your oil description. Sometimes described as "toffee" on your oil cap or radiator's expansion reservoir. If it's just in your oil cap, and your coolant in your radiator looks fine - the chances are it's condensed water in your engine - I'd recommend you look at changing your oil asap, and keep an eye on it. If you can see discolouration in your radiator water - then you have a much bigger problem. Water is probably leaking into your engine, or oil into your water, or both. Either way, for peace of mind, you should consider getting your cooling system pressure tested for leaks. It could be seals around your water pump, I don't think that this is a tough job to dismantle, inspect and clean, and reassemble with new seals. Download the manuals from the main site for instructions.

Re: My issue..........
short journeys can cause water in the oil, because like the garage said sitting can create condensation in the oil which won't be able to evapourate if the oil isn't run up to temperature...
