This week every seal nut and bolt and bearing was stripped. Engine out gearbox checked and everything put back together.

Before and after...

Nose fairing respray finished on the ZX6r. Paint cut, polished, waxed and buffed then refitted. Buttoned up all the final bits on the bike and out for a test ride.

It is an amazing bike... but...
I'm not sure if it's just the build up to riding it taking months of very involved work and the expectation not meeting reality, but I was a bit underwhelmed. It sticks to the road like anything and handles incredibly sharply. But it feels a bit hollow to me. I've been out on the DRZ400 the last few days and have to say the cranky old 400c single engine makes me smile more. I'm not sure what's wrong with me but the pocket rocket nature of the ZX6r, although exhilirating, doesn't really suit what I enjoy most in riding.

I had intended the ZX6r to be a moto gymkhana build, hence the bar conversion (which works really well and is very comfortable, making it a great road bike), but the next stage is investing in protection cages and a rear brace and that's quite an investment. Probably replacement side fairings and spraying too so that I can keep the originals uncut. Plus the bike is really in very nice condition. Decision time. I'm reluctant to let it go as I've put so much work and investment into it. At the moment though it's a slightly less modern version of my Street Triple (which I love and can't wait to get out of hibernation) with a less engaging low end to the engine. If I was more of a high rev happy rider I think I'd get along with it more.

It is up for sale. I've got too other bikes I need to do more work on. Spreading my time too thin if I keep it. That's the decision I've made anyway. If it doesn't sell I'll store it away for Moto Gymkhana or possibly even track in future.

New bearings fitted today. Nice and quick to do. Turns out the other side were due for replacement soon looking at the seals, and the water ingress starting to rust up the inner axle.

Is it tiny to sit on? I was offered one at a good price about 10 years ago and I was wondered... I left it at the SV's too small to me so the kwak will be worse

Bigger than my SV was. Similar in feel to the couple of GSXR750s I've had, but with a bit more of the comfort that the Street Triple has, due to the bar conversion. I'm really in two minds about selling it. I think I need to let it go though. I've got it on eBay so we'll see what happens.

I've started... the dreaded VFR valve check / service. Including the VTEC valves. Uh oh...

Spent the best part of the day getting the cam covers off and making bits to lock cam chain tensioners and pellets to lock the VTEC valves. All cams out and VTEC buckets, noted all bucket and shim sizes, locking pellets fitted then reassembled and measured all clearances. Sounds simple but it was quite a process and took possibly 5 hours? It's also looking like nearly every valve is just out of spec. I need to see if there's anything I can swap about as this could get quite expensive. The VTEC valves need whole new buckets rather than shims and they're £25 each. There's 8 of them! Then there's the £200 of gaskets etc for reassembly too!
