Not a very good reason. Your debit card is no safer.

in fact i think debit cards are less well protected against it, and eiser to use on line.

I got done recently also. Credit card company spotted the dodgy transaction and contacted me. Dunno how the thief got my details as I am almost paranoid about identity theft.

Total of about £600 in 3 transactions.

preciscley, if they steal the credit card details its not my money.

I have no idea, i do use it online but they are "good" sites well known and usually secure,

I was on holiday last week and it could have happened then, but i only used it twice, onces in a surf shop and once at...... a petrol station, (esso)

the card is cancelled and the bank informed and i have yet to find a reciept for the £30 just incase i sleep spent...

i will get the money back, its just the same ol rigmaroll...

Transactions aren't always funds checked at POS though... It's perfectly possible to spend money that's not in an account, though not as easy as it used to be.

No reason to be paranoid though... Just get your cards through a reputable company, check your statements, report any fraud, get your money back. It can take a little time but as long as you don't do anything stupid you're covered. Most real banks will do a refund pretty fast, it took me 5 days through Egg, 7 days through Halifax. Though Egg have IMO gone downhill.
