Why don't bikes...
...have automatic chain oilers fitted as standard? Given the cost of scottoilers, it wouldn't boost prices much and if it was built into the bike, it could be done nice and discretely (rather than having to run tubing all over the shop/drill holes, etc). You know, little cylinder for oil neatly tucked into the frame, just like your rear brake fluid resevoir, have the piping running down the hollow inside of the swing arm, etc.
Anyone know of any bikes that do have something like this? (I do mean built in lubrication- not belt/direct drives...) |

Same reason they dont have other useful bits I suppose. But your right its a basic mechanical mod that would improve running and longevity and not be performance enhancing or anyhting.
Perhaps tho if they did and people didnt use them right they could be liable (although we ahve to do other things right) or maybe it would distract from regular checking of your chain as it would give a mainetenace free message. I dont know. I guess if its an aftermarket fit you are assuming responsibility. Or maybe the Scottoiler is the only one really worth using and they cant get around the patent and dont want to have to install real Scottoilers. I honestly wouldnt believe that its to increase chain and sprocket sales as people tend to aftermarket for those anyway, Id imagine. Or maybe no ones thought of it and you should write to Honda, Suzuki etc.. |

Anorak on.
The original Kwak Z1 900 had a chain oiler as standard. Then they invented o ring chains and decided the bike no longer needed the oiler.Wrong.It ate chains like me with a chicken Madras. Theres a lot of stuff they could put on bikes, like a gear indicator, why not? |
