any mortgage advisors???
quick question, i have been looking into becoming a mortgage adviser for the last couple of years now, i started working towards it but then fell ill so was not able to carry on. but i am about ready to start working towards it again, now i know that some banks/estate agents etc will pay for my training, and i have been offered a place with a company that would do this, but i would be tide down to them for 2 years, and if i leave i would need to pay back the money of training, but i really cant be tide down to anything at the moment, really long story but basically i play in a band, things are going really well and will almost defiantly need to have time off tine the summer, and if i cant get if off as holiday/unpaid leave i will have to leave the job, so for that reason i am thinking of paying right up now for the CMap qualifications, so that i am fully trained and qualified, then i am on the right track for the rest of my life what eva happens, my question is can any1 recommend a good company to go to, through to do the course?? i live near Bournemouth down on the south coast, i am happy to travel as far as London for the course, but would rather not go much further as i would then need to look into staying away and that just costs more money!!! and that's not what i want!!!
also obviously would like to find a company that has good history with there training!! Thatnx in advance!!! |

Well before you drown, dont get tide up to anything !!!!!
But as for getting TIED down - why not. Find out what the payback amount would be, it may be easier and as cheap to work for them, bank some of your wages towards paying them off if you have to take a lot of time off/leave. Should be better off than paying for the course yourself up front, and I would have thought that working for a company like this would lead to more leads, hence more money. Also, knowing someone who works in the music industry (he was the Stone Temple Pilots 1st manager) I can tell you that no matter how good it looks, its never as close as it seems, he had another great band that was sooo close to a recording contract, but missed out because they refused to sack the drummer - the execs just didn't like him. So use the company for your own needs, and have a bail-out fund handy composed of what you would have to pay to train yourself, topped up with your wages. David |

sorry about spellings i am in a real rush 2day!!!![/quote] That's ok, you'll find the FSA really easy to deal with, when they're fining you £1,000's for not keeping customers informed properly. They won't mind a bit. I can already imagine the scene: Young couple, first time buyers, have found their first home and have been escorted into the mortgage advisors office in an estate agency. They sit nervously waiting for him to arrive...and then.....standing in the doorway they see a 'Marilyn Manson, just been dragged out of a very deep mosh pit' lookalike. Leaning forward he whispers at the nervous couple..... "what will it be my precious? fixed or tracker?" |

Can you be legally tied down to the same company for two years?I know some firms pay crap wages while you are training in order to reduce their costs, but making you repay money if you leave their employment sounds like a breach of EU free movement of labour rules.I'd take some advice on that.
And good luck with the tour.

yeah they can do it, its all in the contract, my bro had to do it when he worked with wella, they do it so that they dont spend £2k+ on training you and then you leave and work for another company, etc, i dont think there is really that much wrong with it, if it was my company i would want to do the same i think!!!!
cheers for the good luck!!! |

For this kind of thing (the mortgage advisor rather than the band ) isn't there some kind of regulatory body? They should have a list of approved training centres that could help.
