Default RIP Phil Read

Died yesterday aged 83.
I think he was the only rider to win 125, 250 and 500 world championships.
A really nice guy too.

RIP indeed. I've been to a couple of events where he, Jim Redman and Ago have talked about their racing experiences. Always fascinating. When you hear their stories, it's amazing they survived at all, let alone won world titles.

Also RIP Chrissy Rouse, bike racing is a lot safer than it used to be but is still dangerous.

Met Phil a couple of times at the Silverstone classic.
The last time was maybe four years ago, and he was still throwing his leg over a bike and enjoying it. So much so that when all the legends went out on the bikes (brand new fireblades I think) he stayed out longer and did a couple more laps than he should have. The Mrs and myself were chatting to his wife at the time and had a bit of a laugh and a chat with him when he eventually made it back in the paddock. Nice guy, still puffing away on the fags I recall.
Have got his autograph, probably a couple actually.
