so, erh large enough to knock him off and possibly kill him, not large enough for him to see and avoid then... odd.

sad state of affairs. used to be common practise up here, bored youths would hide 1/2 a breeze block inside a bin liner in the main roads, you'd just see the innocent bin liner on the road and *bang* you've ruined a wheel on a breeze block.

hence while I'll avoid even the smallest debris lying in a road if I can at all.

I used to ride this road a lot
I autumn, winter time it can be very dangerous just with the leaves and over hanging trees
There are massive speed bumps in the road too so you always aim for the small gap in the middle of them
Not good news at all
RIP

Typical story from my local rag...

Horrible road that I avoid at all costs in the car. On the bike you can avoid the speed bumps and at the time of day this happened you can blat down the centre line as it's the only point in the day where it's quiet. The rock could well have been obscured by the mountain of fallen leaves at this time of year (as Sandman says) and I'm not sure if it's in the "switch off" zone where the street lights are off during the night.

Amazingly the comments under that article spend more time grumbling about the road closure than sympathising about the poor chap who died! I sincerely hope it's not a deliberate sabotage effort - we don't want to lose anyone else!!
