Default Does this bother anyone else?

I just saw on BBC News that Man U have accepted an offer of £80m for Ronaldo

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...td/8094720.stm

Does anyone else find this just a bit unsettling? I'm not usually one for sandel wearing earth humping, but isn't £80m, that's £80,000,000.00 btw, a little excessive for what's essentially a very well paid, well treated slave?

Something about it seems very wrong to me

Yes it seems excessive. So do the bonuses paid to the bank bosses that screwed the economy. But that is market forces, people pay what they perceive to be the value of the services they are buying.

£80m for a footballer is daft IMHO but it is not my money, so they can do what they like with it. I hope the government taxes these transfers in some way!

If I had sold something for £80m, you can be pretty damn sure I would spend a significant sum on a smart accountant to minimise my tax liability. Tax planning is not tax avoidance.......

I also find it stupid how clubs are throwing around that amount of money for a player, and the players get paid excessive amounts anyway, when doctors, teachers etc don't get nearly enough for the job they do and the benefits they bring us...

but, aslong as we all continue to support football, this will never change,

A football club is a business has been for many years. If a business puts a value on an assett at £80mil then they obviously believe he can earn them a lot more than that. As sponsorship/TV deals/Marketing and Ticket Sales all go up then so does the proffit, so it doesnt suprise me that this kind of money is talked about with players like Ronaldo cos he does make people watch people will buy the shirt and so on. Its no different to Becks going to Galaxy stupid money their but Galaxy made the fee back on increased income within 6months before Becks had even touched a ball.

Yes it's a huge amount of money, but it's simply supply and demand. Real Madrid obviously feel there is nobody better at football in the whole world (and they could well be right, he's unquestionably top 3). When you have a skill developed to such an elite level, and the "industry" in which you perform is followed by billions of people world wide, and makes billions of pounds every year, then in my opinion you are well entitled to the benefits that go with it.

I just wish I was his agent.

Its stupid, £80million, but to them its prob small change, although i do wish id get paid theyre sort of money for occasionly running round a field maybe kicking a ball and falling over getting injured, going off sick for 6 months and still get paid more a week than a normal person would earn a year

Yes, added to the fact Real Madrid have also just bought Kaka for £56m.

Ronaldo and Kaka will prob be on £200,000 a week
