Default Broken off bolt, what tool to use?

The bolts holding the brake line cables in place have snapped off. Both of them can you believe it?

What tool would you use to extract the bolts?

ezee out or something else?

yep, ezee out / screw extractor, call it what u will.
Preperation is the key, dont rush it.
if u can file the head flat and use centre punch before drilling. start small and work out, go as big as you can without damaging threads before using extractor. hth

Drill it out on center until you break into the minor diameter of thread and then you can pick the threads out with a scriber or something. Or buy some LH twist drills, they are very good.

This requires a certain level of technical ability. Whilst i'm not saying stig does not have this level i, rightly or wrongly normally err on the low side of knowledge / expertise when offering advice from my limited knowledge

Oh yeah I know, it's just that EZ out's aren't very easy to get out when they snap (which they are prone to). They are a last resort for me.

I've drilled bolts out before as Chris has stated, but I haven't used any other method. I have heard the ezee out is less likely to end up with something going wrong and each time I hear of bolts being snapped in, the bolt exctractor is the thing that seems to be mentioned the most.

Reasons;
The bolt wasn't strong enough to undo itself, an EZ out is much smaller, brittle due to it's hardness and has threads which propagate into cracks.
The EZ out is a taper, which is screwing itself into the bolt as you use it, meaning the harder you twist, the harder it goes in, expanding the bolt which will lock it into the hole harder.

Just my opinion, but I have snapped a few and had to oxy torch them out (bloody difficult with an ally part you don't want to melt).

I read the same thing when doing a search for them. It Would seem it can be hit and miss between an easy job and a fg bch of a job.

I still think I'll give the extractor a go though. The bolts were copper greased so I think it wouldn't take that much purchase to coax them out. If it gives me the impression they are not going to come out easily, I'll revert back to drilling them out.
