The joys of house purchase! hope it works out for you, but Plan B is definitely a good idea.

Being kept waiting by the people above us inthe chain last time (24 years ago) was a nightmare. After several months they then ignored our ultimatum so we dumped them and found our current home on the rebound, which worked out very well in the end. We're not going to be strung along this time!

Had a look at two new build homes in our chosen area, one of which we really liked, and I never thought we'd go that route at all, but the lack of chain above us with a new build is very tempting. It even has a reasonable sized garden and it feels good to have a plan B.
One of the differences between England and Scotland. Once an offer has been accepted on a house there is no turning back. This is why in Scotland everything has to go through solicitors when buying/selling a house.

Presumably that is subject to survey, or do you do that before making an offer

In Scotland the seller has to have a "home report" done before it can be sold. Its upto the bank to ask the buyer for a more detailed survey for mortgage purposes.

The seller only gets one offer at a time on the property and either accepts it or not before another offer is put on the table. Any offer the seller accepts is binding subject to the buyer being able to have the funds. I think the buyer can pull out at any time.

Afternoon all. Well, a pretty drastic change in the weather here today. Yesterday we had clear blue skies and 20°C plus temperatures, today is a shivery 10° - 12° with a cold breeze and rain. At least Mabel and I got out and back for a walk before the rain arrived.

I have a few outdoor jobs I could do with getting on with but I think they might wait till tomorrow now. I do want to get the bike out on the road and up on the stands so I can give it a proper wash and re-coat with ACF50. It's not filthy but would definitely benefit from a good clean.

How's everybody's week going so far? Anyone else made it out on the bike?

Morning all. Started off grey and damp here but the sun is now out in a blue sky for a while. I shall get out for a walk with Mabel as the rain is forecast to return in a couple of hours.

Anybody got anything exciting planned for the weekend?

Damp start but drying out now. Wandered into town to pick up a prescription and then followed the mayor, town crier, mace bearer, beadle, town clerk and various alderman around some of the ancient marker stones around the town centre. Beating the Bounds is an odd annual ceremony where a small child is "beaten" against the stones, these days lowered over a small ceremonial box placed beside the stone, with cameras clicking. I'll upload mine later.

I'm going to miss eccentricities like this when we move, but I'm hoping Suffolk has plenty of it's own for us to explore.

I believe Suffolk has an annual custom of burning a very large straw man. Absolutely no human sacrifice involved of course, no, no, no, definitely not.....

Well not exciting for me, but you lot will think it is. Putting up a small greenhouse for Mrs Luckypants tomorrow.
