I have another update. I have just been called for an MRI, which was done fairly quickly because I have developed problems with holding up my head, not just with riding motorcycles, but also while walking around super markets or while getting into fights in the pub!
![]() The reason for the MRI is that the Physio had a quick feel around my spine and then declared rather suddenly that I need a neck brace and I should have started wearing it around six months ago! I then asked the obvious question. If I am wearing a neck brace, can I ride my motorcycle? At this point she looked at me like I was ready for one of those wrap around huggy jackets and a room with extra soft wall paper! She said no, claiming that it is illegal... ![]() So, I may not be riding my precious SV at the moment, but the physio said nothing about riding other things... You already know where this is going. The bike is in the garage, chained to the ground anchor and covered in locks. So the wife bought me a recumbent pedal trike... Which I promptly crashed & tipped over, wrenching my neck! The wife was filming it all and it looked a lot less cool than it felt as I span out on a corner. You can find the footage here, but I warn you, the language used by my dear wifey as I went Base over Apex, is rather strong and would shock a bishop! My Daughter might also have called me a rather word too! In the mean time, I have another physio appointment in around five weeks and this will let me know if I can ride my SV again. Just in time for the start of autumn. This is the first summer that I have not ridden a motorcycle since 2007, when I first bought her. |

Sorry you are having such a bad time. I don't know if this is any good to you but a short while ago I got some bad pains in my lower back/lumber region along with my already dodgy shoulder. I just happed on a couple of videos on YouTube about ,"Deep Squats ". It took me a couple weeks to retrain my legs etc to get good at them.
https://www.youtube.com/results?sear...+for+beginners After around a month my back pain has gone. My posture as improved as well. I feel a better sense of balance even when casual walking to the shops. They have also helped with my Shoulder and neck pain because what I do now is this.. Every time I go into my kitchen to make a drink I put the kettle on and then place both my hands on the sink and squat until the kettle boils. Sounds a bit daft I know but it's worked for me. It's made my back much better and also stretches my shoulders and neck. Because I have a lot of drinks during the day it's added a lot of extra exercise to my daily routine. Take it easy but give it a go as it's free

That's a bit of a bugger about your neck Jayne! I hope it improves enough for you to get back on your SV. Those recumbent trikes look like huge fun. Maybe just slow down on the bends though.
![]() Thoroughly enjoyed the video too.

I had some good news from the GP... Well sort of good news. I have to have more scans because the MRI found something sinister that needs investigating and will no doubt turn out to be nothing, because I am now an old bat in her fifties!
Anyway, when I asked my GP if I could ride my bike again, she gave one of those deep sighs where you know that she is biting her lip while dealing with a possible idiot. After a couple of seconds of silence, she gave me the all clear to carefully ride, providing that I wear a light helmet and don't do anything daft... As if I would do anything daft? I did not mention crashing my tricycle, what she does not know, she can't worry about. So dear wifey took me to Helmet City in Cheddar and bought me a new helmet after I bounced my last one off the road. This one is a lightweight, full face single colour thing that matches Sylvie nicely. If you do not know Helmet City, then I strongly advise you to visit there. Not only are the sales team really helpful, they have a chocolate factory in the ground floor of the shop and they sell the chocolate in store! An actual freaking chocolate factory! Sadly, I am allergic to chocolate, but the temptation... I had my first ride today, to go and pick up some parts for the trike from SJS in Bridgewater. If the UK had a bum hole, it would be Bridgewater. The place is a dump, however, the bike shop is brilliant and I have a new set of Hope hubs for the trike. I had a trundle down the M5 at around 65MPH and then put my brace back on when I got home. All seems fine... So it is now time for those loony toons moments, where I get to pretend that I Wile E Coyote and slam myself into something hard and unforgiving and I don't mean the wife when I say something mean about Star Trek!

Excellent news about the riding Jayne. Now then, just be sensible and don't do anything daft.
As if....Fingers crossed for the scan turning out to be a false alarm. Keep us posted.

That choice factory sounds nice. All the HC in Oxford has is a bike shop on the ground floor. Although it is a Suzuki dealer, where I bought Bullseye.
Know what you mean about Bridgwater Jayne. We have a warehouse there and none of us likes to visit, especially as we're always put up in the Mercure in the town centre and you lay awake all night worrying if your car is OK... Glad you're out and about on Sylvie again. Do take care, ya dafty.

Well, I have heard nothing about the scan results, but have received a referral to the spinal service... Would it be wrong to turn up on the bike and leathers? I guess I could take the bus, but I might feel a bit silly wearing my leathers and helmet!
In shock news, the wife has just turned sixty! Oh the horror. So at some point we need to get the bikes out and go for a ride before she too ends up on the bus with her free bus pass! ![]() Thanks for kind words and support guys. Life goes on and I look at Sylvie and still love her just as much as the day I bought her. I may be a good weather rider, but I ride when I can. |
