A job to be done sometime during the next week or two.

Will the taller tyre make your speedo under read? It will rotate slightly more slowly than a 120/60 but I'm sure its not significant enough to be an issue.

It's apparently 4% Mike, but the speedo was always optimistic anyway. I'll check it against a satnav/gps reading when I get them on. If needs be I could stick a speedo healer in there I think.

yes to avoid legal problems most vehicles speedos show slightly higher than the actual speed so a bigger diameter tyre can correct this...

Thanks Lance. I have to say I don't have to do much to it. I keep it relatively clean and give it a coat of ACF50 each time I wash it. Aside from that I just do the basics - change the oil every 5000 miles (fully synthetic) and keep it topped up, check tyre pressures, keep the Scottoiler topped up and tension the chain on the rare occasions it needs doing. Aside from that I just ride it. I don't ride that slowly, but I don't spend my time wringing it's neck either.
I've had it for more than 15 years now, still makes me smile.

I have run 70s profile fronts in the past and the only thing I didn't like, was the horrible noise stones/gravel make when they stick to your tyre and scrape the inside of the mudguard. I strongly recommend 36psi as well, because the stock 33psi leads to a strange wear pattern in the middle. Last edited by NedSVS; 07-09-25 at 07:22 PM. |
