Maybe it's partly down to lack of contaminants held in fresh oil? Just a smoother film at micro level when it's not carrying all those suspended black carbon residues that could cause increased friction and micro-vibrations? But I'm guessing really.

Its possible but the filter is hopefully keeping the oil pretty clean...
