I've just fitted an external garden tap. Up to now I've connected a hose to a sink tap in my garage but the thread on the tap is an odd size (probably imperial) and modern hose fittings don't fit. I did have an adapter but that fell apart on Sunday.
I like the convenience of hoselock connectors but they're not foolproof and can pop off under pressure which has happened to me a few times spraying water all over garage, at least if it happens now it keep the mess outside.

There was an external garden tap fitted round the back of the house here when I took over the tenancy. I've bought a hose reel with an auto rewind and put it on the wall next to the tap. I had to by an extension hose to get it all the way round the front to the road, but that all works well. Makes life much easier when it comes to bike cleaning.

Most common garden tap thread is 3/4" BSP ( British Standard Pipe = imperial ), some older ones may be 5/8" or 1/2" BSP - A 3/4 BSP thread is just over 26mm outside diameter, the others will be smaller OD. I believe you can get adaptor to fit a 3/4 hozelok to an 1/2" thread

I fitted an isolation valve inside the house when I fitted our outside tap, to allow water to be shut off over winter, and to allow me to replace or repair the outside tap without turning all the house water off Outside taps are open to frost - get one of these - I have used one for many years - easy to fit and remove https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kingfisher-...dp/B00FK08BWO/ ..

Yes I fitted an isolation valve inside the garage. As you say, I can shut off the outside tap in winter and allow allow the pipework and external tap to drain dry....but I'll still fit a cover for extra protection.

Went out and started the bike for the first time in more than four weeks yesterday. It started after just 2 or 3 turns of the engine. I left it running for a short while just to check all was as it should be as I'm intending to go out on it later today. Can't believe how good the engine sounds especially with so many miles on it.
Just need to check Scottoiler level and tyre pressures before I go out.
