A few days later the teen dies through complications resulting from the miscarriage. It's barbaric and is the result of overturn of Roe versus Wade by the (Trump appointed) US Supreme Court.

That is just grim. How the families must feel is beyond knowing. There are some very sick people in power out there. There are also a number of people who would be very happy to see the same legislation in place here.

Yet many of those pro-life fundamentalists are happy to allow lax firearms legislation, so that it's OK to carry firearms and shoot and kill people.

I think it was in 2011 that the number of US citizens killed by domestic gun ownership exceeded 1 million plus and more than the number of American combatants in all their conflicts starting from the American war of independence :/

And it just goes on and on,

Hi R1ff - Well worth the time. BP not too bad. The cholesterol test was the eye opener. Both HDL and LDL very low
Triglycerides not detectable! I emailed my Stroke consultant after requesting advice then forwarded his reply to my Doctors. Tele appointment next Thursday to determine best way forward. Do I go on a very small doseor kick them into touch and have a retest in 3 months or so?Wife's cholesterol levels above recommend thresholds so she now waiting an appointment. So well worth going. It could be a factor in my intolerance to the pills I wonder. Thanks for asking did mean to do an update but just got overwhelmed with other problems( eh car, bike, house and m/home insurance plus DVLA eye test

Glad you found it useful as I do. I like that fact not only is it free but easy to choose a time and date for the tests and a location. I've always found the staff very pleasant and professional as well. If more people took advantage of the service I'm sure it would ease a bit of the load on the main NHS and can prevent medical problems getting worse thus extending life expectancy

People complain about our heath service and in some cases quite rightly but compared with the Videos of health costs I've seen in places like the US we have it good here IMNSHO.

Well, I wished for a change in the weather and I got one

Instead of being grey and dry it is now grey and wet

I forgot the old adage: "be careful of what you wish for."

My 90s era Technics stereo has given up the ghost. Admittedly I haven't used it in over 2 years but the CD player no longer recognises the discs. I dismantled it (aided by YouTube) but was defeated by the laser/motor control board. Technics used a Philips SOAD70A laser platform which are no longer made. The usual problem with them (apparently) is a 47 microfarad electrolytic capacitor (like the rest of us they don't like getting old) but the YouTube video shows a different version of the laser platform and I haven't figured out how to access the component side. On mine the motor is soldered directly to the board so, unlike the video, I can't flip the board over and replace the cap. It looks like part of the drive mechanism has to be removed plus the video shows 2 potentiometer adjustments whereas mine has 6. Naturally, I twiddled them which didn't help (!) and found out later you need specialised test gear to set them (oops). I had marked their positions but that might not be accurate enough.

I did find a German firm that sells refurbished SOAD70A units and got all excited till I saw "NLA" at the end. No longer available.

I'll take another look today, since it's already non functioning I can't really damage it further.

I was going to buy a 2nd hand replacement off ebay but then thought at 30+ years old maybe I should not bother since their lifespan is likely to be short too.

I decided to buy a Pure (semi) portable CD player since they are (allegedly) made in the UK (gasp). It also has a DAB radio so that will be good since I don't have one.

our old DVD player recently packed up. Took it apart and could see the eletrolytic capacitor on the power board had been weeping so thought it worth a punt changing it. Ordered a replacement off eBay, changed it and powered the player up. It came on! Turned off on all good. Loaded a DVD in expectation-nothing! From a high to a low in less than a minute! That's life I guess.

I bought a cheap air fryer with a Brit name attached (Tower) but you can guess where it was made. It has a 3 year warranty which is good because it only lasted 4 uses/2 weeks before failing.
Now comes the customer service fun time. I emailed them with the issue - it won't switch on - no lights, no fan, no heat. I included a copy of the warranty registration. I told them I'd checked the fuse, tried a different outlet, ensured the drawer was inserted correctly (and even depressed the drawer interlock manually). It is dead.

Today, I received an email asking me what appears to be the problem, could I send a picture of the problem (what?), also send a picture of the underneath (showing serial number etc) and a copy of the warranty.

So, I sent all the information again. What's the betting they will now ask me to check the fuse and try a different outlet?

My prediction is that it's related to the shaded pole fan motor, from experience with my dehumidifier, the motors have a thermal fuse that blows at a certain temperature but it is soldered in place so it means tearing the fryer to pieces to replace it. I do have spare thermal fuses from the dehumidifier but it's only 2 weeks old so I'll just have to deal with customer service. I have patience, I've been underwhelmed by the air fryer anyway (but got caught up in the hype).
