Not the normal type of indicator flash rate problem....

I know that when most people get new LED indicators, they post up asking how to slow down the flashing rate, but this isn't exactly that problem

I have just put on new rear indicators with 25W 8 Ohm resistors. And the flash rate is fine, for about 5 flashes. Then it suddenly speeds up again and goes too fast. But then if I switch them off, wait a bit then try again, the same thing happens - fine for about 5 flashes then it goes crazy.

Only thing I can think of is that the resistor is heating up maybe? But I don't see how it would suddenly get so fast. I would have thought it might gradually get slightly faster.

Anyone have a clue what's happening?

Probably is a thermal issue

Should have gone with a relay

I have the same issue with my left indis- the right one flashes too fast but that's because I caught the right one on my garden gate when leaving my house one and it stopped working. I need to get all the wires checked

I didn't think that was possible on the sv. Do you know where they sell them?

You said the rating of the resistors, but what material were they made of?

I'd bet a shiny new penny that the resistors are over-heating after a couple of power cycles. There will be a critical temperature, that when reached, will cause the resistors to have less resistance than a chocolate fireguard has to heat.

I know Halfords did sell a universal 12v indicator relay kit.

There isn't a specific one for the SV, I used a Honda one from Halfords and just modfied it - but dont ask me how, I cant remember and I dont have the SV anymore to check.

A search on here for "flasher relay" came up with this - which I THINK was the guide I used

Do you need one relay for the front and one for the back? Or does the one do both?

Ooo, you paid big money for sh*te resistors. That outer casing (for mounting) will cause them to over-heat quickly when used on-off for indicators. They were probably designed for in car audio purposes (given the gold plate).

One relay fits all (subject to appropriate manufacturer). Left/Right/Front/Back, doesn't matter.

Yeh because I have resistors on the front indicators because they are a smaller bulb. They are the normal looking resistor and they have been fine for ages

Oh well, live and learn. I'm off to halfords to get a honda relay, then I can remove all the resistors. And hopefully flog those fancy ones on ebay
