Default H*nd* project

The rebuild of a Honda Z50J

The bike was imported from the UAE in 1976.
I rode around the back garden as a child, then it has just sat in my fathers garage since 1985.
After I rebuilt a Piaggio scooter for my boy, I wanted to do another.
So I went to my Dad's and "aquired" a box of bits.
What you see here is all the original metal work powder coated.
Most of the bits have come up like new. A credit to Honda engineering.
A few pit marks remain where the rust has gone a bit deep, but nothing major.
I stripped the top half of the engine to see if there was anything amiss, but no, everything is perfect, re-ground the valves anyway and fitted a full new gasket set. Re-painted the cast iron cylinder.
The engine cases still need a bit of fettling to bring them to a shine.
I should get the chrome work back from the platers by the middle of Feb, then I can assemble alot more.
I have bought new "original" fork internals from CMS in Holland that stock most of the Honda parts that are available. Not too expensive either.
I have had the wheels & hubs powder coated, The original Tyres & tubes are like new with a bit of silicon spray, not one puncture but had to replace a valve.
I have still to buy carb & manifold (just carn't find it in Dad's aladin cave), front mudguard & exhaust shield (too rusty to polish & re-plate), rear shock absorbers (bent) & indicators (bit expensive for original)
www.Monkeybike.co.uk have most of these parts. The carb is very reasonable because they take the carbs off their 50's to tune them, so lots of stock items just lying around.
Also need a MPH clock, but a Honda one is needle/haystack job.
Want to get forks & bars on asap, then the wheels can go on & it'll resemble a bike.
Room in the garage is becoming more challenging now
