Shameless Bump!!

Is anyone going to offer a different route or is this what we are going to do?

The Chesterfield detour is back on again if needed!

Bump!

Is anyone else who is going up there going to offer their opinions/own route ideas or is this what we are going to do?

Dude, i'm perfectly happy with this route, and as I am larger and you are (arguably) scarier than most of the rest, I'm saying we've got a winner. Unless someone wants to suggest something phenomenal in the next week or so...

But i can do you both with one arm tied behind my back and hoping on one leg!

OK willy waving over with, i'm like the others in that i couldnt really give a damn about the route up there as long as its not loads of boring motorways and we stop often enough.

D'oh just bothered to look at the map and that A1M section looks very long and very boring. Might have to dig out the old MP3 player and put that in the lid me thinks!

well the last bit looks nice n twisty

not so sure about the A1M stretch though. a bit of motorway's ok to get clear of London, but i have a low boredom threshold and tend to find myself 'forced' to go a bit fast in order to maintain some semblance of sanity. and it won't help us to get there if we all fall asleep and ride into eachother.

dual carriageways are a better compromise between covering distance quickly/pleasantly cos at least you get some curves, etc to break up the journey. ooh yeas, and roundabouts too

afraid i don't have any alternative suggestions right here and now, though if you ask me nearer the time i'm sure i can come up with something

After getting a "slating" from you on my original idea I thought I'd better rethink!
That is what I cam up with following a suggestion from Bear about getting North as far as and as quick as possible. (Not wanting to attempt putting up me tent in the dark!!)
At least I didn't use the M1!!
I know the A1(M) is dull but it's not soooo boring on the dual carriageways and single lane sections.
And there are only 70ish (less than an hour in total!) motorway miles out of the 270 mile route and that includes the dash around Manchester.

The main fun bit is obviously the A57/Snake Pass run but there is still time for any other suggestions to be entered!

As said in various other threads we need to take into account what levels of riding skill/experience there will be in the group. Me? I'm a fast scenic rider (I like to look at the pretty scenery!) not a mad, bad thrasher (Until I hit city traffic) like you Fizzy!! So it needs to meet all needs! I think we are meeting someone from the Fens on the way up as well! And now an offer of a meet with some of the Manchester crew!

Get those suggestions in quick!

A50 offers a few roundabouts after a long M1 ride. Not too sure they are enough to satisfy Fizz and likeminded riders though!!! Scenic enough - albeit green, flat and forest'ee in parts. A good bridge for any photographers in the group!!!

Overall a nice bridge between M1 and M6. Taken it many a time when I was too skint to us the Toll!!!!!
