Default Cranking Battery Voltage

Hi Guys

Been having trouble with starting my 02 curvy,

the battery was fully charged using a trickle charger and started fine, wait a few hours and the engine is turning over but not starting and eventually the battery dies.

the battery voltage is around 11.8V with the bike off, as soon as i try to start the bike this drops down to around 4ish volts, letting off the start button the battery jumps back up to 11.8V.

Does this indicate a knackered battery or should i check something else?

Thanks guys

No load voltage should be 13-odd volts, so I'd say it's time for a new one. How old is it? Has it been fully discharged many times or left in a discharged state for a long period?

Not too sure on the age of the battery, it was on when i brought it.

The bike was left stood with no charger for around 4 or 5 months before i brought it. the battery was completely flat, not even trying to turn over at this point, i charged it and left it on charge using an optimate and all seemed to be ok, i have been using it for the last 1-2 months.

last week i used it at night, the next morning wouldn't start. its been charged and started but after a few hours nothing.
