Default MOT Question

My K4 is up for its first MOT next month, is there a standard cost for bike MOT's? Can garages add their own costs on top?

And do you know if they remove the full fairings as part of the inspection?

There is a maximum price they can charge. (Cannot remember what it is as I never pay anything near it, and occasionally get it free anyway). They are not allowed to remove anything.

TBH a bike MOT is a very simple procedure and most with the exception of the brake efficiency tests you could do yourself as part of a good check over of your bike

What Tim said. Statistically, most bike fails are as a result of faulty lights, which is insane, given that even an utter mechanical novice can check they are working in 20 seconds, rather than wasting £30 to be told by someone else. Sure, things like emissions need to be tested there, but the vast majority of it, you should know is going to pass before you take it there, IMO. Even with things like bordeline-illegal indicators/rorty exhausts, ride the bike down when you go down to book it in and ask the mechanic if x is okay and show them on the bike, explaining if you have to you will put the OE stuff back on before the test.

£27.75 for bikes, £50.35 for cars.

Take it to a council MOT testing station; they don't do garage work so don't fleece you.
