winter prep stage 1&2 complete
It's that time of year again, a small amount of work now will save going out in the cold to work on the bike, so the four part plan comes into play.
Stage one, clean and re-grease/lube, last week I regreased and lubed all the cables, pivots and bearings I could easily get to, gave the brakes a quick clean up and dab of rubber grease and copperslip, checking I had enough pad life to cover winter. Stage two, sorted out hand guards, any little niggles, and electrics including cleaning all electrical connection blocks and replacing any wiring that was to far gone, heated grips re-wired and made sure all drains were clear and clean. Stage three coming up... Cheers Mark.

Re: winter prep stage 1&2 complete
Stage three complete, good clean; hard polish of the panels, ACF50 on just about everything else, nice couple of hours out playing in the rain this evening, heated grips working a bit to well.
MOT tomorrow or Wednesday and it should all be done. Cheers Mark.

Re: winter prep stage 1&2 complete
Oh you don't have to do any of it, there are several other options, mostly involving more time and expense, or of course just stop using it altogether.
but for those who value usability and reliability; the above keeps winter servicing to a minimum, I doubt I'll do anything else bar a few oil changes until next year, so I can continue enjoying riding in all weathers. Cheers Mark

Re: winter prep stage 1&2 complete
basic LM grease will do most jobs as a general rule, coppergrease and red rubber grease are useful in a few places, of course if you're like me you have several tins of the stuff from high temp bearing grease and what not, but for home maintenance LM is fine.
Cheers Mark.

Re: winter prep stage 1&2 complete
cleaning them out with WD40 is fine, but make sure you lube them afterwards, I have a hydraulic cable oiler, which used with any light oil or even engine oil will do; but you can do the same with a bit of time and gravity working it manually.
Cheers Mark.
