Default £2k to spend on a bike.

I've got roughly £2k to spend on a bike, I've been unable to ride for a few months due to injuries, and still cant. I sold my bike about a month ago, due to not riding it enough and now being unable to. I want another now though!!

Anyway I've got a maximum budget of £2k to spend and I would quite like a pointy sv650! do I have enough money to get a pointy??

the other thing is I'd like a fully faired version, but if its possible I wouldnt mind adding the lower fairing myself.

2K should get you quite a decent bike - a slightly older pointy with a few miles on it but a tidy example. you will probably be able to pick one up with the lowers already on and save yourself the expense.

You have a lot of choice in that price range as long as you don't mind something a bit older too. If I had your money, I'd personally be looking at an older Blade or ZX9 - but really depends what you want it for.

Im stil restricted untill october, so anything bigger than 650 is probably not worth it. even then i wouldnt like to jump onto a 900 after not riding anything more than 33bhp.

I want it for a weekend toy, but Id also like to do a tirp to europe too. I'm recovering from a broken wrist and im not sure how much movement I'll get bsck or whether I'd be able to cope with the wrist pressure on a sports bike.

Which bits did you break?

If you are riding a sportsbike properly there shouldn't be much wrist pressure.

What did you do. I bust my left wrist in Jan 2009. I was back on my GSXR within 3 months of doing it. I had to have an operation to have it plated. I reckon you'll be OK. I was told I would end up with limited movement, but I ended up getting 95% of it back.

I've had a screw put in my scaphoid, been cast for 2months just had it taken off last week, movement is getting better even in a week.

I had an r6, which was always going to be much better than me! It was really nice, spotless, but it was wasted on me, that and it sat in the garage a lot! It was slow speed on the r6 that were tough on my wrists, needed the wind to hold me up lol

I'm not looking to buy something untill im told im fit enough to go back to work, I thought the sv would be a good choice.

Keep at it, I am guessing you have physio exercises and stuff to do ? If so keep working at it and it'll keep getting better.

The SV is a great bike, like you say its no R6 though. But compared to your R6 it'll be like riding a sofa, even though the S version you are after has clipons they arent actually set in that wristy a position so you wont find IMHO comfort a problem. I never did...

yeh ive got exercises, but i dont know how far to push myself with them, if i go too far will i cause more damage? the surgeon said the bone had healed and the pain i had was just stiffness of the muscles.

I'll have to have a test ride, problem is i need it at 33bhp til october! might try and find a restricted 1

So true. I rode my curvy SV S yesterday for the first time since getting my R6 and it felt like I was bolt upright!

Jaymee - I have my SV restricted and it's a cracking bike to have restricted. Whereabouts are you based? Might be someone close by with 33horses that could let you have a quick go on theres?

Yamaha Thundercat?

A mate of mine has one and the riding position is much more comfortable than the SV or most other sports bikes for that matter. Would probably be easier on your wrists, especially when touring. Same engine as your R6 as well.

They are a bit rare though so finding a good one might be tricky but 2 grand will get you a decent one about 10 years old.
