Default Death of the V-twin

Read somewhere that is very difficult to make a v-twin match the latest environmental emissions laws and so they could be gone. The TL derivied 1,000cc V-twin is said to be going coz it can't match the rules.

Any truth in this?

Yeah only the new stuff...what I heard was that the TL engine was being dropped by Suzuki for this reason...that is why the SV1000 has come to an end. And no more V-stroms and Kwak KLV...Cagiva are in probs as they depended on Suzuki engines that may no longer be available. Just a rumour

Yeah, Euro Tier £ came into play Jan this year.

We noticed our trucks on average increased heat output by about 12-13%

with the higher fuel burn, means bigger coolers and fans.

At Tier 2 a lot of suppliers stock piled engines pre regulation date, to continue building, but you can't do this with Tier 3.

Any new vehicle built after the date must have a tier 3 compliant engine.

I imagine they will find a way around it.

Vee twins are falling out of popularity. Apart from Ducati and KTM not many manufacturers are offering them in their line up.
Before anybody screams Aprillia, they have a V4 on the way...

I think the KTM 950 and 990 motors are both euro 3 compliant... So are most of the Harley variants. 990 needs FI though. So's the SV650 engine in Vstrom guise. The SV thou's always being rumoured to be dropped, but not sure it's happened yet- if it is, it could be for sales reasons alone though.

Excuse my ignorance but what about Harley, will they still be allowed to sell new bikes in Europe or are the American regs different?
