There's a few different ways to wrap tape. The Park Tool website / Youtube channel has some good videos showing the methods. There's one without the figure of 8 that I like.
It's one of my favourite jobs wrapping tape, as long as it's the right type of tape. Preferably without adhesive backing. Gel tape where it sticks by friction is good as you can undo and re-wrap to get it perfectly spaced as you go.

Wrapping bar tape was something I once enjoyed doing too. A good wrap really finishes of a newly serviced bike. Something the mechanics in the shop I used to work in always passed the buck on and got me to do the bar tape. Sometimes, just sometimes I miss those days.

Some lockdown lessons with the not so little fella today. Got an old bike back from the father in law and teaching the boy how to do all the maintenance jobs.

Today we have
Removed front and back wheels, axles removed bearings cleaned, regreased and reassembled.
Bottom bracket removed and bearings cleaned, regreased and reassemebled
Old pedals removed and new ones fitted
Removed old freewheel unit and new one fitted.
New road tyres and inner tubes fitted to wheels
Rear derailleur swapped.
Old chain removed

Luckily I remembered that we are still waiting on new front derailleur before fitting the new chain so we packed up for today.

Will probably have spent more on bits than the bike cost all those years ago but spending some quality time passing on some new knowledge is priceless. Glad to have made some use of this lockdown.

Good work. Impressed you're getting into the hubs etc too. .

Important to think of value sometimes instead of cost. The value of what you get out of doing it as well as the use. Same for a lot of things I suppose.

I did some work on the cycle yesterday too. I took the derailleur cage apart to give the pulleys/cogs? a good clean. Loads of built up crud in there and it seemed simpler to take it apart.

Chiselled a few years worth of crud out from behind the sprocket cover on the GSXR to try and uncover the gear position sensor that's going haywire. Found it and gave it a good spray through and it seems to be showing the correct gears again now. Not sure how long for, but it definitely needs to work for the engine to be happy. Manually switching it into fourth gear position makes clicks and whirrs happen under the tank which I'm guessing is fueling adjustments that the ECU makes, so it needs to know when it's actually in fourth and above.

Tinkered around with a couple of Pi0's I've had for a while.

So setup a door cam which sends a picture of who pressed the doorbell to messenger and streams the video over the network.

And the other one is now watering the plants in the conservatory accessable over interwebs.

Watering is smart.

What's the doorbell cam? I want something (that's not ring/subscription) but don;t know what.

I mounted some CCTV and an NVR today.
