Odd choke/running problem
I noticed at the end of the week that while the bike fires first time with a little choke and runs nicely on the stand, as soon as I stand it up to ride the revs drop right down. It's not losing a cylinder- I know that feeling rather well - but the idle speed drops like a stone. It picks up fine with a little throttle so it's not a problem, I'm just curious what could be causing it...

Very very long shot here.... Not knowing the curvy modle carb's but ....maybe you have a float chamber float come unstuck and the needle is ok on the slant but the float needle drops, cutting down the flow of fuel when the bike is stright upright...
I know it sounds a long shot but it's the only thing I can think of.

Doubt it could be that, since once it's warmed up it runs fine... Seems to be exclusively a problem when the engine's cold and the bike's been on the stand. Strange one

Not a bad plan... Or it'll get worse and a piston'll fly out and hit me in the face, but either way it'll solve the bad running problem

It's not a big deal, compared to the half dozen other intermittant faults it's picked up while laid up

Why not try some carb cleaner through it... Might just be a sticky bug type thing that ........ I'll get my coat

Thing is, I'm not sure how it could be a blockage or similiar since the bike idles and pulls right at all other times. It only lasts maybe 20 seconds or so after I take it off the stand too, which would make me suggest float levels or something, as if it were going out of whack while on its side but adjusting, then having to readjust while stood up. But if it were that, it should go wrong on long corners.
Stumped But never mind, I fixed the clutch (well, put off having to strip it anyway) and the rear brake light today so the list's getting shorter. It's going in for rejetting as soon as I get my act together and all the little things fixed so the mechanics don't take the mick, that might sort it out.
