Default Sidestand play

Checking my bike over t'uther day and I noticed there is quite a bit of play in the sidestand (perpendicular to the direction of pivot)

Can someone please tell me if

a) This is by design
b) Not by design but too be expected on a four year old bike
c) Completely bolloxed and I need to get a new one

Thanks in advance

They are pretty sloppy when new and don't get any better with age I took mine off at the pivot point and squeezed the forked end together in a vice to reduce the play (don't get carried away though). I then put the shouldered bolt back with a washer under it, to stop it being forced open again. The locknut on the back will keep it secure, but if you have any doubts you can put alittle thread locking compound on the nut too. This removed enough play in mine to enable fitting of shorter dog bones (AKA jack up plates) without worry of it toppling over.

Sometimes the play is from the bolt shaft being worn away, thats how mine is, not a big problem anyway, just means you bike leans a tad more.
