SV1000S rear wheel bearings
Just found that they are shot after 34,000 miles on my 03 bike. I'll have to use my 04 bike, erm Dianes, until I replace them. Will make sure I get 2rs replacements.

Re: SV1000S rear wheel bearings
Stripped the back wheel out today after a ride as it was becoming really wonky. It would appear that the problem is the outer seals have worn grooves in the aluminium spacers to the point where water was able to get in. This has then washed the grease out of the bearings and started corroding the balls and races. Hey presto - the bearings self destructed.
So, parts list from writing on the damaged bits:- 62/32RS 1-off, Sprocket carrier bearing 60/28RDC3 2-off, Wheel bearings 39x65x7 1-off, Sprocket carrier seal MFO37N4 1-off, Wheel seal The 2 aluminium spacers that pack the wheel out in the swingarm The bearings and seals are all KOYO so let's see what my local bearing factor can supply as replacements. I have no doubt that the bearings would have been OK if the seals had kept the water out. My dad was a metallurgist for Massey Fergusson and says that he's chopped them up and tested KOYO bearings in the past. They were as good as anybody elses they were using at the time. |

Re: SV1000S rear wheel bearings
Getting the bearings was no problem, £22 for all 3 but the seals are simply not available. Apparently Jap bike manufacturers deliberately design using non-standard sizes so you have to buy them through the dealers. I'm having the aluminium spacers priced up but I bet they are a daft price so I will turn my own on the lathe when I find some bar.
