Default Digi Camera dilemma

Wanted to get an opinion from the people on here.

I want to buy my wife a digital camera for Christmas. My problem is we already have 2 Sony digi cameras that have both died exactly a day or two after our warranty period expired. These cameras are different models and where bought years apart but both just swicth themselves off.

I have tried various batteries and taken it to camera repairers who say its not cost effective to repair.

Now half of me wants to buy a different make and screw Sony, however I have spent a lot of money on the memory cards, and I'm annoyed not to be able to use them either.

So do I bite the bullet and get another Sony or get a different make?
Any ideas what make to get with a £100-£150 budget.

I am tempted to send both camera's to Sony with a ****ty letter and see if they do anything.

I would send both cameras to sony, if they dont work what do you have to loose.

Strange as it may sound Tesco's have a good range of cameras for a good price.

Is your card not a generic XD/SD card like all cameras use, or are sony pikeys and create their own memory card.

I've got a sony cybershot s600. It too either wont turn on, or comes up with an error message asking to power off and on again. If that happens, I smack it sharply on a table, and then it will come on fine.

Drop Sony and their proprietary memory cards and go for a different make with standard cards. SD cards are dirt cheap these days anyway.

Nikon with SD card.. the coolpix's are really good for a compact digi camera IMHO.
