RIP dude ... and something just struck me as a bit strange (about me, not Evel) ... I was fan back in the 70s (even had one of those Evel Knievel toys with the wind-up bike) ... so how ... when I was even remotely interested in bikes 30+ years ago, did it take me 30+ years to go and take my test?!?
Another legend gone though ![]() |

No saint at all throughout his life, but undoubtedly a guy with the cojones of an elephant. Very brave and crazy fella who captivated the world with his enormous leaping stunts. RIP indeed.

The description 'Legend' is used far too often these days IMO - but, if there was 1 man who trulydeserved the title it's Evel Knievel - The Grand-daddy or Godfather if you like of stunt motorcyclists.
At the time I knew no better, but he knew (along with countless others) that a Harley 750 was not the ideal motorcycle for jumping over things - the bike was too heavy, had too little power, had naff suspension etc, etc - BUT, being the patriot he was he absoultely refused to use anything other than an American bike - foolish or unwilling to compromise his 'beliefs' ? I'll leave it to the individual to choose. RIP Evel - you certainly made the world a more interesting place !! ![]()

Ahh, I remember the day, sunny summers with little more than old bits of wood, a couple of brick, the occasional oil drum and mates too crazy, dumb or just plain ignorant.
Gleefully setting up jumps and ramps n stuff, laying in the road cringing in anticipation of a gut full of Raliegh Chopper, taking it in turns to pretent to be 'Evel'. A loss certainly, but not a sad one. A life lived full is a life well lived. Thanks for the memories. RIP. |
