my veiw of them is a bit tainted by actually riding a couple
a virago that scraped pegs on what I thought was a straight road  and a vulcan 1500 that was just wierd, no idea what either end was doing, turn in like a barge, wierd position, viby, though had nice low end torque and very comfy. On the flip side I think the all black night rods look quite mean, they do turn a lot of heads and people tend to move. No fun, but great if you like to pose
