Default First One Piece Leathersuit - Thinking Hein Gericke or RST?

How do,

I'm looking into buying my first one piece suit as I've just acquired a pointy sv at the start of december. I bought a weise leather jacket at the start of my das training in april and have been using it ever since with some rst cheapo kevlar/leather pants. I wish I'd had the common sense to buy weise pants to fit the jacket but c'est la vie I was a bit numb in the head at the time.

A mate of mine has the RST voltage suit which looks smart and is affordable. I've also seen a similar one piecer which Hein Gericke do and it looks smart & has a couple of pretty badges to match my helmet and any future extra's. Does anyone have any experience with either of these and/or would recommend or advise against either of them.

I'm 6' 2'' and 17 stone so quite a hefty guy (although since it's new year, I'm on one of those things now, what do ya call it... 'a diet').

I've got a feeling several people will jump straight in with "Get yourself an aplinestars suit" or "arlen ness are the best"... but my budget doesn't stretch that far and I'm not a mental racer - I just want some decent looking leathers which protect & are viable for the occaisional track day use...

ta! PT6^

Hi Paul

Just wondering why you are so set on one piece leathers? Everyone we've known who've bought them wishes afterwards that they'd bought two piece

Pete wouldn't touch RST again after having had some, and Hein Gericke are supposedly very good. German efficiency I suppose

Hein Gericke's suit's are very good. I've crashed twice in mine (around 60 mph low sides) and other than scuffing on the leather, no damage. No qualms about still wearing them.

+1, i have the RST Propelle 2 piece suit, although they're good now, i have to say im on my second 2nd jacket and 2nd legs as the 1st set i had virtually fell apart just looking at them. They have very poor quality control so finding a good product would be hard.

I've got an RST Voltage suit hanging up here - I've only been out once in it so far, but I'll add one observation straight away: its a vented suit, so it'll be lovely in summer.

However, its not summer yet as you're no doubt aware... I was only out an hour, and it took an hour afterwards to feel the warmth in my arms and chest. I'd go a size over what you're measured at, so you can get an extra layer or two underneath it.

One piece leathers are a complete pain in the ass, for anything but actually riding the bike. That stop at the cafe will be a pain in a one piece.

Get yourself a 2-piece set that zips together all the way around.

As for brands have a look at Teknic. I've crash tested a pair and they were virtually still as new condition afterwards(if it wasnt for the scissor happy medics). All the seams are double/triple stitched and the armour inside(including a back protector) is knox...you can't go wrong there!

They normally retail at £600-400, but looking online there are bargains to be had for half that.

Teknics seem very good, I've never owner their leathers but I've had some of their textiles and they were as good as they need to be really... THe leathers have good word of mouth from what I've seen.

And like everyone else says, 2-piece is better for most people. Easier to get 2-piece to fit, too.

I'd go with what the others have said, don't bother with RST and look out Teknic or Gericke instead. Both are priced about the same and are as good as each other. I certainly wouldn't waste my money on Alpinestars or Dainese, you can get far better quality made to measure leathers for that sort of cash.

Just to back up what Lissa says about 1-piece suits being a pain in the backside for normal road riding. You'll be allowed out on a trackday in a 2-piece suit that zips together all the way round. You'd only really need a one piece if you were planning on doing a lot of trackdays or racing - mine hangs in the wardrobe for most of the year and I use my 2-piece leathers for the road.
