Hi All.
Not sure if anyone else has had this problem but some advice would be much appreciated. When riding my SV650s recently I have started to notice a kind of whirring noise, which is more apparent as the bike slows down or I am at least not accelerating. This may just be as the engine noise covers it up. It sounds lilke something rotating and gets slower as the bike slows down. So I thought it might be something to do with the chain / sprockets, but it weirdly sounds more like it is coming from the front rather than the left. I have a lower fairing fitted and thought it could be something to do with vibrations but then this wouldn't speed up or slow down when I am pulling up to traffic lights etc. THe bike was serviced just over a month ago and I am sure I nevre had this problem before that and I think it is getting worse. Or maybe I am listening for it more and am getting paranoid. I have done about 1000 miles since it was serviced. I have checked the other threads but can't find any info on thistype of noise, but sorry if someone has brought htis up before. It is a standard 2004 bike other than the lower fairing and it has done 17,400 miles. Any advice would be great. Cheers |

Welcome aboard Buffty
![]() Can you tell me if the sound is there as you slowing down in gear with the cluch engaged or with the clutch in and coasting? In gear could be gearbox while coasting is not as likely. Not likely to be a chain as it doesn't sound like the whirring your describing. While coasting I've heard wheel bearings sound like this. Just understand the different conditions which produce the sound and someone hear will probably be able to understand the problem. looking forward to hearing the result, good luck. Greg |

Thanks for the advice. It does continue to make the noise when the clutch is pulled and the bike is coasting. I have just taken it to my local bike garage and it has been checked out. THe guy reckoned that it is down to the chain and he ran it up on the stand and you could hear the noise then. He also checked out the front wheel bearings and these were fine.
THe chain does have a slight tight spot so this appears to be causing the noise. Strangly the chain I had before never made this noise even when the tight spot got really bad before it was changed. Most likely I will be changing chain and sprockets in the next 2000 miles or so. Otherwise the bike continues to run well and is very reliable. Great motorbike for the price. If it develops more I will let you know. Cheers |
