Default Have lost my V5 and am selling my bike

My bike has been and still is on a SORN, and I've got a buyer for it, after I collect it from the MOT test centre tomorrow. According to the DVLA website, I don't NEED the V5 to sell it, and I have downloaded the form to apply for a new one.

My problem is, can the buyer tax it? If he has a valid MOT (which I've got), and the SORN (which I have but has my name on)....and his insurance (I don't have insurance for it).

Have gutted the house rying to find the damn thing, am really upset. Any ideas?

Every time I have taxed a bike that was on Sorn, I've needed the V5 to be able to do it, They've never asked for the Sorn letter, Just the V5, MOT and Insurance docs.

I think you're stuck till get a replacement V5

Doll, I've had a wee furtle round the DVLA website and here's the sketch...

If you haven't got a V5 then you need a V62 (and 25 quid, ouch) and insurance and MoT. Bugger.

If you?re not shown as the registered keeper on DVLA records you cannot tax the vehicle. Bugger.

The good news is you're right, you don't need the V5 but it might take the new owner a month to get one, during which time the bike must stay off road. You wouldn't need to tell him that of course.

All of the above from here.

I think your best bet is to insure yourself, tax it, sell it and cancel the insurance.
